Formerly, the role of the Chairman was focused on monitoring and supervising. Today, the role has grown in importance.
The Chairman’s role includes, of course, governance, along side with the role as a proper leader of the Board Team, which has grown in importance. The demand for commitment and knowledge of the Board Members, and the complex environment that the company is operating in, makes the corresponding ability of the Board to set the strategic direction of the company demanding.
It calls for a good leader, the Chairman, of this heterogenous team called the Board, and the Chairman’s ability to enthuse, focus and steer the team and its work in an efficient and captivating manner.
